Welcome to the First Year Conference Website! Maybe you came here because you want to register, or want more information, or maybe you came here because you were afraid Evan Dressel would be mad if you didn’t. Regardless, you’re one step closer to making a very good decision. Slightly less lame.
For the first time ever, First Year Conference will be held in stunning Grant Hall on January 9th and 10th! It’s is a two day conference designed to provide you with all of the information you will need to be successful for the rest of your time here at Queen’s, and beyond. You may think after first term that you’ve seen it all, but there’s a lot more to being a wise upper year than owning a GPA. Over this two day event, our workshops and case competitions will identify some of the struggles you may face, and how best to deal with them. Speakers from Queen’s and “the real world” will provide inspiration for your career, as well as insight into possible ways to spend your remaining time at Queen’s. Be prepared to meet new people, have fun, and come away prepared to face life head on!
FIRST YEAR ENGINEERS, this will be one of the most useful tools you are provided with in all of university. Have you been wondering:
How do I decide what discipline to choose?
What’s it like to live off campus?
What possible graduate programs can I take?
How do I improve my resume?
Should I get an summer engineering job/internship?
How do I prepare for my FREC interview?
How do I make sure I don’t run out of money next year?!
If you have pondered any, or many, of these questions, look no further! The First Year Conference will answer not only these questions, but will provide you with information regarding topics you haven’t even considered yet. Take advantage of this AMAZING experience to socialize with Upper Years, prepare for second year, and gain some perspective on where engineering can take you.
